Directions in Highway Safety Newsletter
This printed newsletter provides timely, comprehensive updates about federal and state highway safety activities. Members and associate members can reach more than 2,000 highway safety professionals by contributing articles.
Washington Update Newsletter
This members' only publication details the latest highway safety events and activities from the nation's capital.
Emails Alerts and News Releases
Timely emails notify the membership of critical issues and important legislative and regulatory developments that affect highway safety or encourage action on a specific legislative or regulatory issue. News releases cover the latest Association activities or policy positions and are regularly covered by the national media.
GHSA Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting provides an opportunity to share information and network, learn about the latest safety developments, and discuss new products and services with a variety of vendors. High-level federal leaders including the DOT Secretary, NHTSA Administrator, FHWA Administrator and National Transportation Safety Board Chairman have shared their views and interacted with GHSA members at past GHSA Annual Meetings.
Special Reports and Publications
GHSA produces numerous reports and publications on key issues. These include the Survey of the States series that examines traffic safety measures on a state-by-state basis. The series has examined motorcycle safety, speeding, seat belt use, underage drinking and aggressive driving. GHSA also releases timely, in-depth reports on topics such as the reauthorization of federal highway safety programs.
Federally- and Private Sector-Funded Highway Safety Tools
GHSA has used federal and private sector funding to develop a variety of tools for highway safety offices and the safety community. Examples include:
- Closing the Circle: A Multicultural Primer for State Highway Safety Offices,
- Countermeasures That Work: A Highway Safety Countermeasure Guide for State Highway Safety Offices
- Model Minimum Uniform Crash Criteria (MMUCC), a national guideline on highway safety-related data elements
- Driving Skills for Life, a multi-million dollar teen driving program developed in partnership with Ford Motor Company

Annual Awards Program
GHSA's annual awards program showcases the nation's best and brightest safety leaders and efforts. Members and other highway safety partners nominate outstanding individuals and programs. Award winners are honored at the Annual Meeting and receive national recognition. The entire safety community benefits by learning about these successful efforts that can be emulated in other areas.
